In short. To get an Italy visa from Morocco, you apply at the Italian Embassy in Rabat or the Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca, depending on the city where you live. Visa appointments can only be booked online on the website of VFS Global, the external service provider appointed by the Italian missions in Morocco, and not on the Prenot@mi portal. The decision on the visa always rests with the Embassy or the Consulate.
Guide updated in October 2026 according to the information published by the Italian Embassy in Rabat.
Where do you apply for an Italy visa from Morocco?
- Italian Embassy in Rabat: for residents of Rabat, Salé, Skhirat, Temara, Khemisset, Tiflet, Rommani and Aïn Aouda.
- Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca: for residents of all other cities in Morocco.
In both cases, the application is handed in at the VFS Global offices, which collect the documents and biometric data. The decision on the visa always rests with the Embassy or the Consulate.
How do you book a visa appointment?
- Check the type of visa and the documents required on the official Visto per l’Italia (Visa for Italy) portal.
- Book your appointment on the VFS Global website for Italy in Morocco.
- Attend the appointment with your passport, original documents and copies, and pay the visa fee and the VFS service charge.
- Track the progress of your application and collect your passport following the instructions you receive.
The Italian Foreign Ministry’s Prenot@mi portal is still used for other consular services, but not for visas in Morocco.
Which visas are most often requested from Morocco?
- Employment visa: you first need the nulla osta (work/entry clearance) obtained in Italy by the employer, usually through the Decreto Flussi (Italy’s annual quota decree for foreign workers). See the guide to the Decreto Flussi 2027 application.
- Family visa: you first need the nulla osta for family reunification issued by the Prefettura (the local government office).
- Study visa: for universities and courses in Italy, see the guide to the permesso di soggiorno (residence permit) for study.
- Schengen visa for tourism or visits: for stays of up to 90 days.
For visa types, costs and processing times in general, read the guide to the Italian entry visa.
How do you prepare Moroccan documents?
Morocco is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention: to use a Moroccan certificate in Italy, such as a birth or marriage certificate, an apostille from the Moroccan authorities and an Italian translation are usually enough. See the guide to legalisation and apostille.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book an Italian visa appointment on Prenot@mi from Morocco?
No. In Morocco, Italian visa appointments can only be booked online on the website of VFS Global, the external service provider appointed by the Italian missions. The Foreign Ministry’s Prenot@mi portal is still used for other consular services, but not for visa applications in Morocco.
I live in Marrakech: where do I apply?
The Italian Embassy in Rabat only covers residents of Rabat, Salé, Skhirat, Temara, Khemisset, Tiflet, Rommani and Aïn Aouda. If you live anywhere else in Morocco, including Marrakech, you apply to the Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca, again through the VFS Global offices.
Does VFS Global decide on the visa?
No. VFS Global collects the application, the documents and your biometric data, and charges a service fee in addition to the visa fee. The decision on whether to issue the visa always rests with the Italian Embassy in Rabat or the Consulate General in Casablanca.
Do Moroccan documents need legalisation for Italy?
Usually not. Morocco is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so for a Moroccan birth or marriage certificate an apostille from the Moroccan authorities and an Italian translation are usually enough to use it in Italy. Check the specific requirements for your visa type before your appointment.
